Golf Association.
A few weeks ago Brian Gerken, a BGSU
graduate and golfer defeated current BGSU
student-golfer Mitchell Kontak in the finals of
the S.P. Jermain Match Play Championship. It
was a different story, however, for the Toledo
Metro Golf Association Championship.
Kontak turned the tables as he birdied the final
two holes at Detwiler to fire a 1-under- par 70
to best Gerken by 2 shots. After shooting even
on the front, Kontak holed out for eagle on the
par-5 14th in route to his even-par 72 and win
over Gerken.
Mike Kennedy shot two-under-par 34 on the
front nine Sunday, but faded on the back nine
shooting 39 totaling 146 and captured third
place. Brian Simmons and Scott Conrad tied for
fourth.
Conrad netted 66 at Detwiler and was tied with
Scott Huffman. But, Conrad, with his hot back
nine, was able to crush his handicap for the
2nd day in a row as he netted 65 at The Legacy
for a two day total of 131, 5 shots better than
Kennedy, 6 shots under Huffman and 7 better
than Brian Piezer and Chad King.
The NWO Junior Golf League
wrapped up its 2015 season on
Wednesday, July 22 with the
Orchard Hills Invitational. Winners
included, Evan Recker, Boys 16-
18, Drew Peters, Boys 13-15 and
12-under Boys was won by Spencer
Clingaman. Anna Marshall took the
honors in the 14-18 Girl’s division.
Season ending awards were
presented to, Jared Nelson and
Anna Marshall for Player of the Year.
Hayden Clingaman earned the 2015
Sportsmanship Award by setting a
fine example of golf etiquette, class
and leadership.
The NWO Junior Golf Association
returned this year after a one-year
absence and was a rousing success.
