Practice Makes
Perfect
, or Does It?
ONCE WHEN GOLFING
with
our twin grandsons, who were
6 years old at the time and their
brother, who was 10, one of the
twins gave up playing on the
fourth hole. The other brother
continued to play the entire 9
holes. When my wife praised
him for continuing to play and
not quit like his bother.
He looked at her with wonder,
and said,
“
Well, you have to
practice if you want to get
good.”
That’s true to an extent.
It’s deliberate practice that
makes perfect.
Having drills that train a certain
proper swing technique or
movement and then practicing
to gain a repetitive motion that
will repeat under pressure is the
correct way to practice.
But it also helps to have the
conviction and willingness to
stick to the routine and put the
time on the range to improve.
“Practice
doesn’t always
make perfect
if you’re doing
it WRONG!”
