Lydia Ko Talks with
Back 9 Report
LYDIA KO MISSED HER FIRST CUT EVER
at
the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship last
weekend and fell out of the top spot on the
Rolex Ranking. Inbee Park who had previously
been the highest ranked woman golfer won her
third consecutive Women’s PGA Championship
(formerly LPGA Championship) and regained
the No. 1 ranking.
Ko was surprised to have earned the No. 1
ranking at such a young age. She enjoyed the
experience, but admitted it was not a major
motivator for her.
In a
Back 9 Reportinterview with the teenage
phenom, she admitted that her goals pertain
more to performance in each tournament every
week. If she performs well on a weekly basis,
things like consecutive rounds under par, cuts
made and world golf rankings take care of
themselves.
She even admitted that she was not aware of her
consecutive rounds under par and cuts made
streaks until she heard them mentioned on the
Golf Channel.
Even though missing the cut at Westchester
was her first missed cut on the LPGA Tour, she
did not let it get her down. She was after all,
a teenager in the Big Apple. Broadway shows,
5
th
Avenue and Trump Tower more than made
up for missing weekend play at the KPMG
Women’s PGA Championship.
Ko reinforced the notion that she intends to retire
from professional golf by the age of 30 and is
currently taking college courses in Psychology.
The next women’s
major tournament,
the U.S. Women’s
Open, will be held
at Lancaster Country
Club outside of
Philadelphia.
She
said she had visited
the course and felt it
would fit her game.
Ko has realized a
tremendous amount
of success at a very
young age. The sky is
the limit for this golf prodigy and we should see
her winning majors in the near future.
Toledo area golf fans can see Ko
at Highland Meadows during the
Marathon Classic July 16
