NOTHING BEATS A SUNNY
DAY,
nice temperatures and a
golf club in your hand, right?
You can probably see yourself
there right now. And that can be
a problem.
It can be a problem because just
as easily as you can see yourself
on the course as you read this,
you can distract your mind while
you are there playing. Unless
you really train your mind to
stay in the moment and in every
shot you take, it is easy to begin
thinking of the past or the future.
When you start doing that, the
belief you have in yourself and
your abilities can take a beating.
Then your game takes a slide.
You have seen it and you have
probably experienced it. You are
on the course and you have the
best first round you have ever
had! Wow! Incredible! Then
you start on the back nine and
everything goes south. Why?
Because you have never seen
yourself playing that well. You
can’t believe it. Consequently,
your self-image sabotages you
and you do not even realize it.
If your self-image is limited, so
will yourperformancebe limited.
That is one of the reasons why I
have talked so much about using
guided imagery or visualization
in mental preparation before
hitting the course.
When you believe,
your self-image is
allowed to soar – and
so can your game.
