EVERY GOLFER HAS A
“Bucket
List:”
Pebble Beach,
Augusta National, Doral,
etc. I was able to scratch two
wonderful golf courses off of
my “Bucket List” in August.
Youknowhowyouoccasionally
have high expectations about
a future event and then it fails
to live up to them?
Well Scioto Country Club, the
home of Jack Nicklaus, and
Crystal Downs in Michigan,
both completely lived up to
their billing.
Being able to walk Scioto
Country Club, envisioning
shots that ayoung JackNicklaus
would hit as he honed a game
that would produce 18 major
championships was simply
enchanting.
The Scioto clubhouse is a living
museum filled with wonderful
pictures and artifacts from
the considerable amount of
history that has occurred over
the years.
Crystal Downs also greatly
exceeded all expectations.
It is stunning with views
of both Crystal Lake and
Lake Michigan. The Alister
Mackenzie and Perry Maxwell
design is a work of art among
the sand dunes of northern
Michigan.
One of the great things about
being a “Golfaholic” is playing
historic, beautiful golf courses,
like Scioto and Crystal Downs
and enjoying them with other
like-minded golfers, who also
appreciate their historical
significance and ranking in
golf’s hierarchy.
I hope you get to make some
check marks on your Bucket
List and I will catch you on the
Back 9.
