Golf Gears Up In April
FRED Altvater
You KnowYou Are a Golfaholic if: You count down each of the
200 days between the PGA Championship and The Masters
every year.
I always
said if they
have a golf
course like
this in heaven, I
want to be the
head pro...
Gary Player speaking
about Augusta National
Golf Club home of The
April and theMastersTournament usually signals the start of the golf season
in our area of the country. However, an unseasonablywarmwinter, allowed
golf to be played outdoors until the end of December and with an early
spring, we’ve had bonus golf this year.
Anewcontributor toNWOGolf Links, Brad Patterson is a PGAProfessional
and he is worried that new technology is making golf too complicated and
frustrating for beginners. He suggests that a more traditional and simpler
training method would be better for the growth of the game.
The Concession Cup will be held this month and was the result of efforts
of a local man, Alan Fadel. The biennial tournament features teams of mid-
amateurs and senior amateur golfers from the U.S. and Great Britain &
Ireland.
The
Concession Cupis a statement about what is truly good about golf.
Every two years top amateur golfers from Europe and the United States
get together to celebrate one of the greatest acts of sportsmanship ever
exhibited in any athletic competition. When Ohio’s own, Jack Nicklaus
conceded a four-foot putt to Tony Jacklin in the 1969 Ryder Cup, it set a
precedent in sports that has stood the test of time.
The April issue is loaded with information on The First Tee of Lake Erie,
Toledo Metro Golf Association, NikeVapor Pro Iron review and two travel
pieces from our roving golf writers, on GreatWaters at Reynolds Plantation
in Georgia and Lakewood Country Club in NewOrleans. David Graf from
the Golf PIT gives area golfers a checklist of items to make 2016 their best
year ever on the course.
We hope you enjoy theApril Issue of NWOGolf Links and we will see you
on the Back 9.
