Local golfer Caroline Powers from Bowling
Green has accepted an assistant coaching
position with Michigan State University
Women’s Golf Team. Powers was a standout
performer at Bowling Green High School and
in Toledo Junior Golf Association events before
becoming a Spartan.
She earned All Big-Ten First Team honors at
MSU and helped the Spartans win consecutive
Big-Ten Championships in 2011 and 2012.
She qualified for the 2013 and the 2014 U.S.
Women’s Opens, but missed the cut both years.
After three years traveling around the country
on the Symetra Tour, she has decided to enjoy
a more dependable source of income.

Position at MSU

Caroline had mentioned to her coach at MSU,
Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll that she would like to
try coaching at the collegiate level, when her
playing days were through. That opportunity
presented itself when the former MSU assistant
decided to leave for a similar position at
Vanderbilt. Coach Slobodnik contacted
Caroline about the position.
“I am happy and excited for this opportunity at
Michigan State,” Caroline told us. “I am totally
at peace with leaving the professional tour and
ready to jump head first into coaching.”
Caroline still has two events to play on the
Symetra Tour, but officially began her duties
at MSU on June 27
th
. She was in the field for
the Firekeepers Casino Hotel Championship in
Battle Creek, Michigan last month and will play
in the PHC Classic in Milwaukee, August 19-21.
Since she began her
new job at MSU, she
has been busy with a
fund raiser to be held
August 28
th
, planning
for two tournaments
the Spartans host, one
in the fall and another
in the early spring
in Florida. She will
also assist in keeping
