found the right situation and property to
apply that knowledge, to create his own
masterpiece, a tribute to the classics, and
fulfill his dream.
He already has a sizable reputation as
a forward-thinking designer from his
previous works of art, Pacific Dunes and
Old MacDonald, both at Bandon Dunes,
as well as, Barnbougle Dunes in Tasmania.
Forest Dunes already had an award-
winning Tom Weiskopf design on the
property, and it has been a popular
destination for serious golfers, since it
opened in 2002.
On his first visit to Forest Dunes Golf
Channel’s Travel Guru, Matt Ginella felt
theWeiskopf course ranked with Bethpage
Black, Pasatiempo, Pine Needles and
Pacific Dunes as one of the top public
courses in the country.
High praise indeed from one of the most
widely traveled golf experts in the world.
Soon after the new course the “Loop”
officially opened for play, Ginella returned
to Forest Dunes and played 108 holes in
one long summer day on Doak’s new
creation. He played the course a total of
six times, three times in each direction,
Red and Black.
Of the new course Ginella said,
