$538,000 to Area Charities
The Marathon Classic annually donates
proceeds from the LPGA tournament to
area children’s charities in northwest Ohio.
This year they were able to donate a total of
$538,000 to 20 area organizations.
The largest contribution of $75,000 was
given to the Ronald McDonald House, which
brings total contributions since 1984 to that
deserving charity to $1.476 million. The
Ronald McDonald house provides housing
for families of children subjected to long
hospital stays. They were one of the original
organizationsthathelpedTournamentDirector
Judd Silverman hold the first tournament and
continue to support the tournament.
2015 Tournament General Chairman, Jim
Hoffman also announced that this year’s check
to the Jamie Farr Scholarship Fund of $25,000
brings that total to $788,000 since 1995. The
fund annually awards five $3,000 college
scholarships to area students.
The generous support of several local
corporations including, Anheuser-Busch,
Beam Suntory, The Blade, Brooks Insurance,
Buckeye Cable, Dana, Fathead, Fifth Third
Bank, Hollywood Casino, Hylant, The Image
Group, KeyBank, Kroger, Labatt, Marathon,
McDonald’s, Mercy Health, Northwest
Ohio Chevy Dealers, O-I, Owens Corning,
Pepsi, ProMedica, University of Toledo and
Welltower, help bring the best women golfers
to Toledo every July and make this huge
donation to local children’s charities possible.
In its 30-year history, the Marathon Classic
has generated $9.2 million dollars for 152
local children’s charities. The 2016 Marathon
Classic will once again be hosted by Highland
Meadows Golf Club on July 11-17.
