It’s Time for the Marathon Classic

Here we are after the July 4th weekend and already half way through
the golf season in the northern portion of the country.
In conversations I have had with golf course operators, they are seeing
a slight increase in overall play, but their sales of merchandise and
equipment are below normal. Even though the country in general is
experiencing a recovering economy, our local golf economy is still
not back to normal.
We are very lucky here in northwestern Ohio and southeastern
Michigan to have a variety of golf courses at our disposal; we can still
play at reduced prices.
We are happy to feature the Marathon Classic on our cover this month.
July will see the 31st edition of the annual LPGA Tour tournament in
Toledo. Judd Silverman and his staff do an excellent job each year
luring the best women golfers to visit Toledo, plus this year CBS will
broadcast the final round on network television, a bonus for us all.
The Jamie Farr Classic and now the Marathon Classic has generated
$9.2 million for area children’s charities and they have set a goal to
hit the $10 million mark this year. That is an amazing statistic for our
community. Do your part to help area children’s charities and support
the Marathon Classic July 14-17.
The
Open Championship will be held at Royal Troonwhich has a
history of American winners. Another opportunity for local golf fans
to see the best golfers is to attend th
e U.S. Senior Open to be heldat
the historic Scioto Country Club in Columbus in August.
Play golf for fun and exercise. I hope I see you on the Back 9.
