Both making par at the 8th, the match of the

century would be decided on the final hole.

How I wish I could say it came down to a

missed two-footer, forcing me to lose by a

single stroke. Standing there on the ninth tee

I had a greater understanding of the extreme

pressure professionals experience when faced

with a drive on the 18th at Augusta National,

with the Green Jacket hanging in the balance.

Succumbing to the ultimate pressure of losing

a round of golf to my wife, I choked like a dog.

The drive at the most important hole of my

life found the water. Why not? Let’s make

it interesting. This most unfortunate mishap

caused me to lose the match by two strokes.

There is a first for everything and this was it.

When talking with my derelict golf buddies, I

will never admit for the record that watching

her make that three-foot putt to win was one of

the proudest moments in my life. Let it never

be mentioned that I celebrated her victory like

she had just won the U.S. Women’s Open. Nor

will I ever admit that I gladly signed and dated

the scorecard as a keepsake for our golf book.

What I will say is, I sulked,

threw my clubs, and stormed

to the car, swearing to never

play golf again. Yeah, that

sounds better, that’s what I

did.

Can I have my Man Card

back, Please?
