In the 2012 Ryder Cup at Medinah Country Club
in Chicago, the American team was leading by
six points at the start of the final singles matches
on Sunday. Something felt amiss, however, they
seemed tense and were not engaging the crowds,
as they did the first two days.
The Europeans on the other hand, looked poised,
confident and determined. They had a higher
purpose. They were playing for the great European
golfer and Ryder Cup champion, Seve Ballesteros,
who had died earlier that year. This Ryder Cup held
extra meaning to each member of the European
Team and their play exemplified it.
Europe rallied that day and retained the Ryder Cup.
It was one of the worst loses ever for the U.S. Team.
It was clear, the Europeans played with a

while Team USA was playing
not to lose

course, they did.
