golfwasalwayssecondaryinhissportshierarchy.
Heexceledatthesport,butenjoyedotherathletic
endeavorsmore.
Heplayedavarietyofsportsinschool,but
exceledintrackandcrosscountryandwasgood
enoughtoearnascholarshiptoUT.
Hesufereda
severeankleinjury
duringpracticewhilerunning
indoorsinhisjunioryear,whichbroughthistrack
careertoanabruptend.
Mostpeople have a dificulttime speling
kinesiologyletaloneunderstandingthemeaningof
theword:

TheGolfTeacherEmerges
Intheearly1980’sthisareaofstudywasinitsdevelopmental
stagesevenatthecolegelevel.Today,awholeindustryof
rehabilitationandphysicaltrainingfacilities,
basedonhuman
kineticsandbiomechanics
,havesprunguptomeettheneeds
ofanagingpopulation.
Manore,withthehelpoftheUTfaculty,wasabletotailora
studyprogramthatalowedhimtopursuethelineofeducation
thatwouldbecomethebasisforhisteachingskilset.Heeven
wroteapaperthatexaminedpropertrainingmethodstodevelop
flexibilityandstrength,plusreduceinjuries,contrarytothe
populartrainingmethodsofthetime.
Cutingedgetrainersareusingtheseveryprinciplestodayto
improveathleticperformance,whilereducingthelikelihoodof
injuryforprofessional andcolegiateathletesacrossthenation.

Manore is firstand foremosta teacher.Given his
educational background, he does not believe in a
“One-Swing-Fits-Al”
philosophy and works with each
individualtobuildthecorectswing.
Hetookashotatplayinggolfprofessionalyandentered
mini-toureventsaroundOhio,IndianaandMichigan,buthis
truecalinglayinteachingthegametoothers.
Hegavehisfirstlessonattheageof16andearnedtwohot
dogsforpayment.Hecontinuedtohelphisfriendsand
acquaintancestoimprovetheirgamesuntil herealizedthathe
couldmakeacareeroutofhelpingpeoplemorefulyenjoythe
gameofgolf.
HisfatherhadintroducedayoungManoreto
Inverness
GolfClubHeadProfessionalHermanLang.
Langlookedat
Manore’sswingandadvisedhisfathertolettheboyplayand
notbecometootechnical withhisswing.
LangcontinuedtobeasoundingboardthroughoutJef’s
career. WhenClaireBatistamovedovertoteachatthe
LegacyGolfClubandLangdecidetoretire.HeaskedManore
tocometoWedgewoodGolfClubtoassumetheprofessional
position.
MikeHil,whowonthreePGAToureventsand18moretitles
ontheChampionsTour,advisedJefto“chasehisdream”of
becomingatop-flightgolfinstructor.Hilbecameamentorfor
the young Manore and helped to shape his teaching
philosophy.
Hisclientelecontinuedtogrow,whenhebecameinvolved
withteachinggolfandtrainingatSynergySportsandFitness
onCentral Avenue.
Biomechanicsandkinesiologyhaveevencaughttheinterestof
TigerWoods,whohashadahistoryofinjury.Woodsrecently
hiredChrisComoashisnew swingconsultant.Comois
curentlyworkingonaMaster’sDegreeinbiomechanicsfrom
TexasWomen’sUniversity.
