Grosvenor was appointed a Colonel and tasked with
assembling theMichigan forces. He suffered various illnesses
throughout the Civil War, but performed with gallantry and
heroism, thus, he returned to Monroe a war hero.
He continued his law practice, was elected to the Michigan
House of Representatives and served with distinction. In
1884 he decided it was time to build a house that would
befit a celebrated war hero and public figure. The mansion
as it sits today was the primary residence of Grosvenor, his
wife and three children until his death in 1899.
When you visit the beautiful Grosvenor Mansion at Monroe
Golf and Country Club, think back to a time of gala balls,
weddings and important meetings that were held within
those walls. They shaped not only Monroe, but the state of
Michigan.
