When most golfers hear the
wordsGaylord,Michigan, they
think of Treetops Resort with
the Robert Trent Jones Sr, Tom
Fazio and Rick Smith designed
championship courses, plus
the ultra-enjoyable Threetops
par-3. It is truly one of the
best stay & play options for
golfers looking for great golf
in northern Michigan.
But wait, the Gaylord Golf
Mecca has other options
available for golfers. As you
drive north on I-75, one exit
ramp before Gaylord, sits The Loon Resort along beautifulOtsego Lake.
The Loon Resort may offer the
best value of all of the Gaylord
Golf Mecca properties. It has
three golf courses, providing
options for every golfer. The
Lakes, the Ridge and The Loon
courses feature fairways that
traverse the sand hills bordered
by tall northern pines and the
views available at each course
are well worth the cost.
The Lakes
course is always
in superb condition. It was
built in 1988 and designed
by famed Michigan golf
architect, Jerry Matthews. The
front nine meanders through
the woodlands, while the
back nine encircles Lake
Michaywe’. The two par
threes on the back nine are
particularly impressive.
Mike Husby designed
The
Ridge
, originally known as
Marsh Ridge, which opened
to the public in 1992. Marsh
Ridge had fallen into disarray
until the owners of the Loon
bought theproperty, shortened
the name, and improved
conditions considerably.
The Ridge is shorter in length,
than the Loon or Lakes
courses, but it is cut through
the gorgeous hardwoods of
the area with great vistas and
significant elevation changes.
