A friend just bought a house at an upscale,
36-hole, resort golf course. In addition to a
beautiful view of the course and surrounding
lakes from his balcony, his new home came
with club membership. Knowing my love
for the game, he invited me to join him for a
round; I enthusiastically said yes.
The day before our tee-time I confirmed where
and when we would meet (you don’t want to be
waiting in the parking lot when your companion
is waiting for you in the locker room), and the
proper dress code (to ensure slacks weren’t
required and expectations for inside the
clubhouse). We also discussed if we would walk
or ride (I enjoy both, but if I didn’t need to lug my
push-cart I’m all the happier), and which course
we would be playing. I let my host make the
decisions, as this is his home course.
Arriving early enough so that I didn’t feel
rushed, I also got to take a peak around the
neighborhood (you should give yourself
