Spring is on the Horizon!

FRED Altvater

You Know You are a Golfaholic if:

You follow every PGA,

European, and LPGA Tour Professional Golfer, as well as,

Television Golf Announcer on Twitter.

If you are going

to throw a club,

it is important to

throw it ahead

of you, down the

fairway, so you

don’t have to waste

energy going back

to pick it up”

~ Tommy Bolt

The Masters is less than one month away. “March Madness” is in full

bloom and the PGA Tour has begun its “Florida Swing.” Although

Florida is just not the same without, Arnie, Doral and Tiger.

There is a new No. 1 golfer in the world as Dustin Johnson unseated

an ailing Jason Day. With Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas

and Hideki Matsuyama, all as current winners on tour, the youth

movement continues.

On the home front, unseasonably warm weather in February allowed

bonus time on local golf courses. With the 9

th

annual Toledo Golf

Show in the books, spring must surely be approaching. Adam Reny’s

article this month outlines how the Toledo Golf Show is reaching out

to a wider audience to help grow golf in the Toledo area.

Cold weather is sure to return to our area and the indoor virtual

simulators are all seeing heightened activity as golfers want to keep

their swings sharp even though it’s too cold to be outside.

We chronicle our own “Florida Swing” in this month’s edition. St.

Augustine, Orlando, Port St. Lucie, West Palm and Naples made up

our Florida tour this year and it was one of our best trips ever.

Most people do not realize the golf community generates $3.9

Billion dollars every year for charity, more than the NFL, MLB or

NBA combined. Some of this comes from professional events, but

the vast majority is donated from the everyday golfer that participates

in a local golf outing or event.

Golf is portrayed as an elitist sport, but it gives more than its fair

share to charities around the country.

Dan Bunge of Components Plus is our feature this month. Dan has

been serving area golfers for nearly 30 years and his store on US 223

in Ottawa Lake is loaded with great golf deals.

Mike May takes us to Myrtle Beach, Ed Travis reviews a new book

about business and golf, plus Matt Saternus tells us about the new

PING i200 irons.

I think I see the sun peeking out, I gotta go, I’ll catch you on the “Back 9.”
