nearby Highland Meadows,
to be held later in July and
ended up being scheduled
the same week. In addition,
the club also booked an
outing for a local corporation
that week.
The General Manager of
Sylvania Country Club, Greg
Hibbard, confirmed that
the Ohio Golf Association
had reserved the dates for
the 2016 Ohio Amateur to
be held at Sylvania Country
Club several years ago, but
said they did not receive the
proper confirmation from
them last summer. Thus other
events were scheduled for
those dates.
The Ohio Golf Association
was notified of the problem,
butwhenagreement couldnot
be reached on a compromise,
the Ohio Golf Association
moved the tournament to
Findlay Country Club.
OhioGolf Association Executive
Director, Jim Popa said,
“Since a conflict arose with
the proposed dates of the
2016 Ohio Amateur to be
held at Sylvania Country
Club, Findlay Country Club
volunteered to host the
tournament and preserve the
original dates of the event.”
Any changes to the dates of
the tournament greatly affect
the amateurs that build their
schedules around the summer
amateur tournament schedule.
Popa also added,
“It was unfortunate that this
year’s Ohio Amateur could
not be held at the historic
Sylvania Country Club, but
it will host future Ohio Golf
Association events.”
Holding the 2016 Ohio
Amateur at Sylvania Country
Club would have been a
unique opportunity to add
to the rich history of the
tournament, as well as,
Sylvania Country Club.
Unfortunately that opportunity
has now been lost.
