The local Evans Scholars Alumni
Association held its annual golf
outing at Toledo Country Club
last month and honored long-
time Evans Scholars supporter
John Kretzschmar for his years
of service.
Evans
Scholars
provides
college scholarships to caddies
that exhibit a desire to attend
college, but don’t have the
financial means to do so. Evans
Scholars currently provides full
tuition, as well as, room and
board for 935 former caddies
nationwide, with a goal to
expand that number to 1,000
students by 2020.
As you can imagine, it takes
a good deal of money to
keep those kids in college.
Outings, such as the one held
at Toledo Country Club last
month, help raise the $17.5
million annually needed to
fund the scholarships.
Local Toledo native, Amy
Lillibridge, Director of Alumni
Relations and Annual Giving
for Evans Scholars, is a prime
example of the power of Evans
Scholars. After caddying at
Inverness Club, she attended
Miami (Ohio) University and
has gone on to succeed in
various golf related positions.
She said,
“Caddying at Inverness
was a wonderful learning
experience and solidified
my interest in golf. The
Evans Scholarship program
has allowed me to pursue
a career that keeps me
involved with the game and
also help former caddies
receive college degrees.”
