Thus far 2016 has proven to be
the best year for
The First Tee of Lake Erie. With expanding
program locations, newly
developed partnerships and
an increase in community
support, the local chapter
of the First Tee is making an
impact on more children than
ever before in Northwest Ohio
and Southeast Michigan!
The First Tee of Lake Erie
is only one of hundreds of
chapters around the world. The
organization began in 1997
and now numbers over 150
chapters in operation.
The mission statement for our
chapter:
“To impact the lives of young
people in Northwest Ohio
and Southeast Michigan by
providing learning facilities
and educational programs that
promote character development
and life-enhancing values
through the game of golf.”
The First Tee of Lake Erie is
currently delivering services
via three avenues:
1. The National Schools
Program
is aimed at
introducing elementary
school children in the
community to The First
Tee in their physical
education classrooms.
We train teachers to
correctly deliver the
program. The First Tee
of Lake Erie currently
has partnerships with
25 elementary schools
including Toledo Public
Schools,
Springfield
Schools and Genoa
Schools. We reach nearly
9,000 children from a
variety of backgrounds
and will continue to
grow the base of school
partnerships in the future.
2.The First Tee Drive
Program
works with
after-school programs
such as The Boys and
Girls Clubs, YMCA’s and
other programs in the
community. This spring,
we started weekly
programming at the
Toledo Boys and Girls
Club and are looking
forward to growing this
partnership.
3. The First Tee Life Skills
Program
is our summer
program for children
and young adults ages
5-18 that teaches the 9
core values, 9 healthy
habits, as well as, basic
golf instruction. Nine
various golf facilities
with trained coaches
deliver educational and
fun programs for the
participants.
