Congrats to University of Toledo golfers, Otto Black and Colin Joseph for their
stellar performance in the USGA Four-Ball Championship at Winged Foot.
TheToledo Golf Association, NWO Junior Golf Association, The First Tee of
Lake Erie and PGA Junior Leagues will all hold events in Northwest Ohio.
Junior clinics and academies being held in June and July at nearly every
local golf facility is a perfect way to introduce your child to a game that can
serve them their whole life.
With golf a part of the 2016 Olympics, being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
in August, the schedules for both the PGA and LPGA Tours have been
affected and there are many big tournaments throughout June and July that
will impact who will be in Rio in August.
Oakmont Country Club has been the site for eight memorable U.S. Opens
and three PGA Championships. History will once again be made there
over Father’s Day weekend in the 116th U.S. Open.
In a section devoted toWomen Golfers, we preview the
LPGA’s MarathonClassic as it attempts to set a new record for charitable donations toToledo-
area children’s charities. Congratulations are due the UT RocketsWomen’s
Golf Team on another successful season and Rich O’Brien contributed an
interview with Sandy Cross from the PGA of America about luring more
women to the golf course.
Tom Doak’s new course,
“The Loop” at Forest Dunes,opens for play on
June 27. Every golfer will want to put that reversible design on their bucket
list. While you are in northern Michigan stop by and check out the nine
golf resorts and 15 golf courses that make up the “Gaylord Golf Mecca.”
Michigan is truly the place to be for outstanding golf in the summer.
