GOLF IS SO MUCH MORE GENTILE THEN RUNNING
BY
BRYAN RENIUS
This is one of my favorite times of
year. You think I am going to say
because it’s the beginning of golf
season, but you would be wrong. It
is that time of year when everyone
posts pictures of themselves running
a marathon, triathlon, or 5k.
Last I checked this was ‘Murica!
What is a K anyway?
I am definitely not a runner, I am
a golfer and proud of it. I have,
however, run two 5K’s in my life.
The first one was the result of a
wager made while sitting around
a campfire at 3:00 in the morning,
after downing a manly portion
of Kentucky’s best. The race was
to be run at 7:30 am. Reeking of
whiskey and sweat, I did finish
and won the bet, but vowed never
to do that again.
I may have stretched the truth
slightly, when I said I ran in two
5K’s. It would be more correct to
say, I started two 5K races. I did
finish both, but there needs to be
an asterisk next to the second one.
A friend of mine asked me to walk
with his wife, while he ran in the St.
Patrick’s Day Blarney Shuffle. Why
not, St. Patrick’s Day is one of my
favorite holidays along with Cinco
de Mayo, as well as, any holiday
that involves mass quantities of
adult beverages being consumed.
