I showed up two hours early
and received a number along
with two complimentary beer
tickets. As soon as I got the
tickets, I looked at the lady
handing them out and said,
“I don’t need no tickets, just
give me the two beers.”
Rather than calisthenics or
some other form of stretching
to prepare for this athletic
endeavor, I felt it best to
hydrate by consuming 72
ounces of golden nectar in
memory of St. Paddy.
The event beganwell, however
my pace was too slow and my
companion quickly zoomed
ahead, leaving me to walk
alone. Lagging behind the
rest of the field, a female
police officer became
concerned for my well-
being. It seems, my pre-race
consumption may not have
been a wise training choice.
It turns out that 5K is about
3K too far, after consuming
six beers.
When the concerned
policewoman asked if was
OK, I smiled and asked,
“Could you give me a lift to the
nearest bar by the finish line?”
After two more beers, I
proudly walked out of the
bar, crossed the finish line
and promptly walked right
back to that bar. Needless to
say, that was the end of my
running career.
I do not understand the
obsession to run, golf is so
much easier. You can ride in
a cart, enjoy the sunshine, as
well as, cold beverages, while
hitting a little white ball. It is
the best thing in the world!
For all you runners out there,
You are Nuts! Then again so
am I when it comes to golf.
